RoboticsMedicalResearchEngineering

The cardiac sensor project, in collaboration with the Heart & Lung Institute and Morph Lab, Imperial College London, focused on developing biocompatible sensors to measure cardiac implant contractions in vivo and in vitro. Two solutions were tested: an alginate hydrogel sensor for in vivo use, leveraging elasticity and electrical properties, and a Hall effect sensor for in vitro applications, providing high sensitivity for small displacements. Testing highlighted challenges with resistance creep in the hydrogel and high precision with Hall effect sensors. Future improvements include tougher hydrogels and enhanced calibration methods.
