Cochlea
Visualising the functionality of the ear.
2018 - Group Project with Anna Bernbuam, Benedict Greenburg, Benjamin Pheipher, Shivam Bhatnagar and Lidia Dynes-Martinez
Special thanks to Abbey Road Studios and Reactify Music for their support and input throughout the project.
What is it?
The Cochlea is part of the physiology of the human hearing system that
converts mechanical vibration into electrical impulses to be sent
to the brain.
This installation creates a visualisation of this auditory phenomenon and
demonstrates the effects of hearing loss.
My Responsibility
I worked on the visual programming language Max in order to analyse
the waveform.
I used a fourier transform to decompose the sound wave into
its constituent frequency bands.
I then encoded a message that contained the intensity of each frequency
band. This message was communicated via a serial port and interpreted by
Arduino.
I was also responsible for part of physical build of the prototype.
